So, let's get into it!

Want To Know What Our Top Ten Card Making Tips Are?

Here's a little sneak peek ......

Card Making Tip No 1

Never Ever Throw Anything Out. Inspiration is all around you. Collect pictures from magazines, food packages, old books, comics, newspapers. Gather scraps of ribbon, keep old buttons, save card board ..... You can use it all! We do and you can too!

Card Making Tip No 2

Keep It Simple. All you need to get started is some card or thick paper, some scissors and adhesive. That's it - you can start making cards.

Card Making Tip No 3

Less Is Best. The most beautiful card designs are clean and simple. Don't try to do everything in one design. Choose one technique and do it beautifully.

Card Making Tip No 4

Print your own unique greeting or message straight from your computer. Type the words using different fonts and experiment with different size letters until you are happy. There are hundreds of great fonts to match every occasion. Print using some scrap colored paper (see card making tip no 1) or even print in color if you can.

Card Making Tip No 5

Need some inexpensive bling for your designs? Visit the hardware store and look for some "metal tape". It is generally silver, a bit like aluminium foil and has an adhesive backing. Use it with a star punch to create beautiful sparkly stars, emboss it for a stay fast image, draw on it to create a design, rub it over a patterned surface to take on texture .... the ideas are endless. It's cheap and very versatile.

Card Making Tip No 6

Reverse embossing. Ink an area of card (big enough to take a stamped image) using a generous amount of pigment ink. Sprinkle a good amount of embossing powder on, shake off the excess and heat. Whilst hot, add more of the embossing powder or a new color, shake and heat. Repeat for a 3rd time. Ink a stamp and press it onto the embossed powder area, leaving it there while the area cools. When you gently remove the stamp, you will have created a highly textured image. Allow to dry for a good amount of time.

Card Making Tip No 7

Paint around the edges of your stamped image with a brush dipped in water and then tear gently to create a feathered outline. Try this drawing your own shapes as well.

Card Making Tip No 8

Distress Inks. Distress Inks react with water. Swipe the distress ink over your card and then spritz with water to create a unique effect. Alternatively, swipe the ink onto a craft mat, spritz with water until color droplets form and then press your card onto the droplets. Allow to dry. Press in more of the color droplets. Dry. Repeat. Don't like the mess of water? Just blend the ink with a sponge or applicator.

Card Making Tip No 9

Ribbon. We love ribbon. Here's a tip to try for ribbon or trim that tends to unravel. Before you cut the ribbon ends exactly as you want them, soak them in water and let them dry overnight. Cut the ribbon ends with sharp scissors.

Card Making Tip No 10

Chipboard. Save yourself a lot of time by applying an undercoat to your chipboard before coloring it with paint or chalk or covering it with glitter etc If you don't apply an undercoat, the cardboard look will never quite go away from underneath and it will look like ..... well ..... cardboard!

and now ....
